Before booking a newborn session with a photographer, it's important to ask the right questions to ensure that you find the perfect fit for your family and your vision. Here are seven questions to consider asking:

1. How long have you been a newborn photographer and what is your experience?

It's essential to work with a photographer who has experience specifically with newborn babies. Ask about their training, background, and how many newborn sessions they've done.

2. Do you have a newborn portfolio that I can review?

Reviewing a photographer's portfolio will give you a sense of their style and the quality of their work.

3. What safety measures do you have in place for newborn pictures?

Safety is paramount when photographing newborns. Ask about the photographer's approach to handling and posing infants to ensure that your baby will be safe and comfortable throughout their pictures.

4. What is included in the session fee, and are there any additional costs?

Clarify what is included in the session fee, such as the length of the session, the number of edited images provided, digital downloads, and any prints or products. Also, ask if there are any additional costs for family and siblings to be included in the photos.

5. When is the best time to schedule a newborn portrait session?

Newborn pictures are typically done within the first two weeks of life when babies are sleepiest and most cooperative. You should schedule your appointment by your 3rd trimester. By booking early you are garneted to get in at the best time and to ensure you capture those precious early moments.

6. Do you have a studio or do sessions take place in-home?

Some photographers have a dedicated studio space for newborn sessions, while others offer in-home sessions. Clarify where the session will take place and whether any travel fees apply.

7. What should we expect during the portrait session, and how can we prepare?

Understanding what to expect during the session will help you and your family feel more relaxed and prepared. Ask about the flow of the session, what to bring, and any tips for ensuring a successful session. Here is my "how to prep for your newborn session guide." click here to read.
